From Fukuoka to Ipoh: Discovering the World of Halal Dim Sum

We were delighted to welcome a group of young participants from Fukuoka, Japan, to Ipoh, as part of their Industry Insight Tour in Malaysia.

As part of the program, the participants visited Dim Sum Discovery by Canning, where they had the opportunity to learn more about Team Some, explore our dim sum concept and discover the story behind our products. The tour also included a visit to our production line, offering them a glimpse into how our halal dim sum is prepared and produced.

Beyond the industry insights, the visit was also a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange and interaction, with the participants getting hands-on and trying their own hand at making dim sum along the way.

A Glimpse into the Halal Dim Sum Industry

During the visit, the participants were introduced to Dim Sum Discovery by Canning’s operations and gained a closer look at how halal dim sum and pau are produced. From ingredient preparation, dough making and filling to shaping, steaming and freezing, the visit offered an insight into the various stages involved in bringing dim sum from the production floor to the dining table. Participants were also able to learn how traditional dim sum-making techniques are combined with modern food production processes to maintain consistency, quality and freshness.

The visit also highlighted the importance of food safety, hygiene and halal requirements throughout the production process. From ingredient sourcing and handling to production, storage and quality control, every stage requires careful attention to ensure that the products meet the required standards.

Beyond seeing how dim sum is made, the experience gave participants a better understanding of the people, processes and standards behind the food they enjoy, offering a glimpse into the work that happens behind the scenes in the halal dim sum industry here in Ipoh.

From Learning to Making Dim Sum

For the participants, the visit was more than simply exploring a food factory. It was an opportunity to learn about Malaysian food culture, business operations and the journey of a local food manufacturer. During their time in Ipoh, they were able to experience how food, culture and business come together, while gaining a closer look at a Malaysian company and the people behind its products.

Through the sharing session and factory experience, the group gained a better understanding of how traditional dim sum continues to evolve through modern food production and technology.

After learning about the company and the world of dim sum, it was time to get hands-on!

The participants had the opportunity to try making dim sum themselves, guided by our team along the way. From preparing the ingredients to shaping the dim sum, everyone got involved and experienced the care and skill that goes into making each piece.

There were plenty of curious moments, new techniques to learn and, of course, lots of smiles along the way.
